What Is the Night of the Candles Like in Valledupar?
From the evening of December 7th, Valledupar families light candles and lanterns on sidewalks, balconies, and parks. Neighborhoods organize their novenas with live vallenato music, natilla, buñuelos, and aguardiente. Light displays decorate the central park and Avenida Simón Bolívar. It's a community celebration — not a tourist show — and that's why it feels so genuine.
From December 16–24 the neighborhood novenas continue, and the whole city enters party mode until the 31st. December is high season: book 6–8 weeks ahead, especially for December 24–31 week.
